Choosing Health: "Making healthy choices easier"
Transform held a conference in partnership with North Devon Primary Care Trust on 1 March 2006, to help shape our local respose to the Government White Paper "Choosing Health".
Over 100 people attended the conference, including health professionals, councillors, and residents and young people who live in the Transform area.
Despite the £millions spent on health in this country every year, the health inequalities between the rich and poor are actually growing. The Conference highlighted examples of some of the innovative work that is already going on in the area, such as the Healthy Schools programme at Ilfracombe Junior School, the Healthier Homes Project which tackles fuel poverty and improves housing standards and not forgetting the sexual health, obesity and smoking cessation work (SOS) that Transform is carrying out in partnership with local agencies and Ilfracombe College.
Gary Smith (Transform Neighbourhood Manager) said, the conference was a great success, but now the real work begins with all the participating organisations working together to put the new ideas into practice.
